Romanian Revolution of 1989 Revolution images
The Command Economic System Simultion began the day - students had to wait in several long lines to receive goods produced by the government in order to copy an important message to take back to their collective farms. The goods were flawed and some people went without. The govenment pencil sharpening service was abysmal. Mr. M pointed out that the unfair situations and frustrations the students were experiencing were typical of governments that embraced command economic systems.
Using communist Romania, the students were read "Childhood memories of living in a Command Economic System". After discussion, Mr. M showed video clips from 1989 when many places around the world experienced revolution/change from the oppessive command economies people were living in - Romanian revolution clips, Ceaucescu's last speech, Man confronts Tanks at Tianamen Square, the fall of the Berlin Wall.
