- Students were assembled in the hall and told to line up. Comrade Markwald welcomed them to our "party headquarters". I congratulated them on being selected for a special job to serve our "glorious leader" in our Fatherland. They are now messengers. They were to copy a message to take back to their villages. I would pay them well once they completed the task. Students then lined up at the Goverment Pencil Shop, then the Government Paper Store, and, finally, the State Sharpening Service. All the while the experienced frustrations from inadequate supplies, wasted time, and long lines. This is how they were introduced to the Command Economic System.
- Next, we read an account from a young girl who grew up in communist Romania. We compared her account to that of Joseph Lekuton (traditional economy) from the day before, even compared to their own lives.
- Then, we looked at what happened in Romania. Students watched video of Ceaucescu's last speech and the beginning of the Revolution. Mr. M explained that revolution is "change". We then viewed video of a reporter trying to tell a story in the middle of a gunfight, crowds cheering for freedom and death to Ceaucescu, and the capture of two secret policemen.
