1. Took our MILLIONS challenge. Classes earned extra points for their first quiz by answering and discussing questions about our summer reading book - MILLIONS.
2. Went to the lab to take care of some things.....
Millions was a good funny book that i really enjoyed reading. It was fun and interesting to read about what Damien did with the million dollars that fell at his feet. However one thing i disliked about the book was Damien's talk of saints. In the beginning of the book it was a little odd but a slight bit interesting to read about his strange obsession, but his contestant talk about it through out the book gave the book a little bit of a dull edge. I felt that this detail was not really necessary for the author to carry out through the book. Minus that factor Millions was a good book and i enjoyed reading about Damien's efforts, struggles, and joys through out the book.
Millions wasn't my favorite book to read this summer. First off, I found Damian's obsession with saints rather odd. At times I found it rather confusing and if you did things that saints did in real life, people might think you're crazy. There were also a lot of things I loved about the book. I love the ending in which Damian burns most of the money and with the remaining money built fourteen wells in Africa. The book wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.
Millions was an alright book for me. I did not enjoy the saint part at all. It just made Damian look like a fool and so naive because he put the holly in his shirt even though he knew it hurt. It was like the saints controlled his every move. I know he's only a forth grader but I think that if it hurt, any forth grader would take it out. Besides that I think it was alright. What I thought was a little wierd was that a forth grader had the guts to take all that money outside (when creepy glass eye was there) and burn it. If I was Damian I would never go out there because I would've thought that I would have got bombarded by all these people that wanted money. I guess the book just seemed a little fake to me. I know it is fake but everything seemed soooooo unlikely especially that the main characters were a forth grader and fifth grader trying to handle all this money. The book did not impress me but I've read worse books.
I thought Millions was an okay book. I thought it was weird that he was so obsessed with saints. Although that part of the book was bad I thought the part when he made a good decision and decided to burn the money. Charlie Mahoney
I like to sort the books I read into three categories. One is the ones that I can't put down, and have to read all the way through in an hour. The other category is the kind of book that I really have to push myself to read, but end up liking in the end. The last one is the the kind of book that wants me to go throw up. Millions was a combo of the second and third category for me. I will be completely honest, I hated about 63% of it, but the other parts, that 37%, were ok. The Saint parts at the beginning made me start to read that in the beginning of summer, but I just hated it so much, I procrastinated until later in the summer. After a while (A LOOONNNGGG while...) I kinda got into it, but this is one book I recommend to people who like futuristic books and such.
Millions in my opinion was not a great book but rather average. I didn't like the saint idea at all even seeing dead ones. But in my opinion Anthony's way to get money I liked better.
I think Millions was a very interesting book. I really liked the story and the plot. I really did not understand his strange obsession with saints. It was cool how it took place in England, although the British actually kept the Pound. In this book, they transferred to Euros. I didn't like this because the information is not accurate. I thought the beginning was a little slow. Up until the money came to their windowsill, the book was pretty boring. The book was very great towards the ending. When all of the criminals started to find him, I was on the edge of my seat. I thought the ending was okay, but, I don"t see how he could burn all of that money! Anyways, if i could grade this book from an A to an F, I would give it a B-. ~Will Kendall Period !
I didn't think that Millions was a very good book. Part of it might be because I HAD to read it. The saints thing is okay, because I realize because his mom has died that this kid got messed up. The plot isn't to great and also I don't think why you would spend it all because you should take the time to change it to euros and then take ALL the time you want. I saw Will's grade, I decided to give this a grade also. A to F, I would say a straight C. I would of given it a D but I remembered about how we HAD to read this book and that boots up the score.
To be honest, when Mrs. E book talked Millions during the year, I thought it sounded really good! When I started reading it, I was thinking, "Okay, it's not the best book, but I think I'll keep reading." Not that I really had a choice or anything... But once I got farther into the book, it got less and less interesting to me, which made it hard for me to follow. By the end, I did not like the book at all. I think that Frank Cottrell Boyce (the author of Millions) had a good idea for a storyline, but he just could have written it better. Emmy Wiensch
In my opinion, Millions was not a good book. I didnt get the saint thing. Also why did dorthey leave with the money then come back, and how did he see dorthey on the train?
When Mrs, E talked about Millions in one of the book talks, it sounded really good. I didn't like it though. Damian's hole saint obsession really threw me off. I don't even know any saints. I think the concept of the book was really good but i don't think the saint stuff was necessary because it didn't even tie in with the rest to the book.
I didn't think Millions was that good of a book. The beginning was too slow for me, and I didn't like it. I was kind of confused about all the saints stuff. The book got better towards the end, but overall I didn't like Millions that much.
I thought Millions was not a good book because there was not a plot and there was no suspense. It also got confusing when it started talking about saints when I thought the book was about money. To me it seemed like an unfinished ending because the bank robbers were never caught and they didn’t even use the money after they exchanged it. Over all to me it was not a great book to read again. Jack Scherkenbach
I thought the book Millions was an okay book, but thought the parts about the saints and the visions was a little weird. I do think they made good choices in how to get rid of the money.
Millions was okay, but a major downside was that Anthony was always talking about saints. I understand that this kid had gone through a lot with losing his mom and all, but I still think that an obsession with saints is kinda creepy. I do think that the plot was a pretty good one, though it may have been better (some minor things I would have changed-but then again the book would be completely different if a different author had written it) but overall the book was okay. When we book-talked Millions in library, I thought it sounded okay, but then reading it I realized it wasn't really something I'd read- so that kind of made my opion differ a little bit)I felt like it was almost unfinished because they never ended up catching the robbers and resolving that problem. This book is definitely not one that I would read again.
The Millions book was not one of my favorite books that I have read before. First, I liked that the book took place in England. But I didn't like that Britain never changed to euros. Second, the book was pretty boring until the end. Also there was parts that were funny but there were very few times like that. Finally, I had a good idea of what would happen to kids who had that much money to themselves.
To be honest, I didn't like the book Millions at all. I did not understand Damians obsession with these saints. It was ridiculous and drove me crazy! There is about a .01% chance of a bag of money falling at your feet at any ordinary time, no matter how much money is inside. The book to me was boring, confusing, unrealistic and unlikely. The only thing I was pleased about in the book was how Damians brother, Anthony, spent his share of the money and how Damian burned the money at the end and then donated the rest to build 14 wells in Nigeria. Because i did not like the book, my hopes lower for the Millions movie. This is my complete, honest opinion.
Millions was a good book to read for me because I usually read different types of books. The book wasn't great from beginning to end (it had some boring parts and so interesting parts) but I became into it the further I went. I thought that Damian's saints obsession became a little to repetitive. The book had an unexpected ending which I thought was rushed. If I were to rate Millions I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book to people who don't like much action, because this is more of a slow pace book.
Millions wasn't my favorite book. It started off slow with all the saint stuff he talked about. In my opinion I thought that part could have been better. I felt bad for him because he lost his mother but the auother could have talked about saints less too. I liked how they spent the money and everything because I really got to learn how economics worked. The ending was unreal to me because I dont know a kid who would burn money. I would rate the book at 2 out of 5
The book Millions was not a book that I personally liked. The worst part about the book was Damians obsession with saints. Like he looks up saint and there meanings. In my opinion that's a little weird. I know why you chose this book. Its because a lot of it involves economics and gives you a good understanding of it.I wouldn't recommend this to other student because of its slow pace.

ReplyDeleteTo me the book was average. The saint idea I didn't like. I like Damian's way with the money rather than Anthony's. The money was just trouble.
